Writing Experiment

When I started this blog, I employed it as a tool to entice myself in fulfilling a directive from my writing professors. As with most writers in existence, the mantra given to their eager students was always, "PRACTICE WRITING EVERY DAY!" Even three years after graduation, I have a hard time following that advice.
I'm not sure why I'm surprised at this since my cello teachers gave me the same "Practice every day!" speech and I never followed that either. There is such a thing as having a life people! Sheesh.
Sometimes I think that advice works only for people who focus on excelling in one area of their gifts. For someone like me who enjoys sewing, collage, painting, ceramics, three different types of dance, horseback riding, horse training, drawing, playing the cello and soprano recorder, singing, wood-burning, writing fiction, nonfiction, and songs, if I were to practice each of these things every day, I would have to no time to eat or sleep!
Even with this blog, my personal journal, a songwriting journal, three separate notebooks delineated for various stories I'm writing, and a laptop computer with folders of my work, I write on average three times a week.
I concede, however, that writing as a career has been my longest held dream. I devote a much larger portion of my mental space and physical time and energy for this future. That said, I feel consistently convicted about failing to write every day.
Now to my point. While laying in bed for a week with shingles, I had the epiphany to give themes to each of the weekdays and write a corresponding post! (I chose to do only weekDAYS, because five days a week would be an improvement, but also realistic considering my aforementioned excuses.)
For a month, I am going to follow this pattern:
Mitigate Mondays: We all know Monday can use all the help it can get to be made "less severe, serious, or painful." Thus, my posts on Mitigate Mondays will endeavor to somehow lighten the Monday burden.
"Tour of..." Tuesdays: In July 2010 before moving to St. Louis, I wrote a series of posts 'touring' various beloved places in St. Louis which I was eager to see again. For "Tour of..." Tuesdays, I will explore one place, obscure or actual, in St. Louis or elsewhere.
Weighty Wednesdays: If you've read my blog at all, you've noticed that I can often be long winded when I explore various deep subjects. (Okay, fine, I'm long-winded when I'm writing silly subjects too. Stay focused, now.) I will try to restrict these essays about love, parenting, social issues and world hunger to Weighty Wednesdays.
Theology Thursdays: As a Christian, I like to explore what God says in the Bible or share what He is doing in my life or in the lives of friends. Usually I talk about Christ in passing throughout most of my writing, but surely expect more saturated God-talk in Theology Thursdays.
Frolic Fridays: Who doesn't love the word FROLIC!? I mean, just hearing it conjures up unbridled glee and playfulness! On Frolic Fridays I will tell funny stories, share interesting photos, or give ideas for potential play!
I expect that these ideas will morph as the weeks continue, but I'll be excited if I actually stick to writing each day of the week. Enjoy!
